The medal is awarded biennially to an engineer of any nationality who has made an exceptional contribution to engineering as a whole through practice, management or education.
The recipient of the Prince Philip Medal will be selected by the Royal Academy of Engineering's Awards Committee. The Award will consist of a medal and will normally be awarded biennially. The Medal will not be awarded if in any year the Academy so decides.

Details of the Nominee
Provide full details of the Nominee, including their job title, organisation, contact details and a summary of their outstanding contribution to engineering as a whole, whether through practice, education, management, or public engagement.
CV of no more than two pages focusing on achievements relevant to the award.
Citation
- How the nominee has made a transformational or lasting contribution to the field at a national or international level.
- Evidence of leadership, influence or innovation across engineering disciplines.
- How the nominee’s work aligns with the Academy’s strategic goals:

Letters of support
Nominators must provide letters of support from two referees. To ensure an impartial perspective, at least one referee must be from outside of the Nominee's organisation. The Nominator is ineligible to be a referee. Each reference should be:
- Evidence-based, with specific examples of the nominee's achievements and influence.
- Objective, providing an unbiased evaluation of the nominee's qualifications, work, and contributions to the area.
- Authored by an individual with relevant experience and a thorough understanding of the Nominee's work and field of expertise.
- Printed on organisational letterhead, if applicable.
Additional guidelines
- Self-nominations are not accepted. However, if you are interested in this award but do not know of anyone to nominate you, please contact the Academy for assistance.
- Only completed nominations will be considered. Please ensure that the nomination form is complete with CVs and letters of support at the time of submission.
- Each nominator can submit up to three nominations for the Award in any year.
