About Engineering Innovation - Developing Critical Skills in Future Engineers
Glasgow Science Centre trained 40 engineers in public engagement and worked with them to develop 4 different workshops for the public. These workshops were delivered to over 8000 children and adults over 145 days of delivery at Glasgow Science Centre.
The team worked with 40 engineers from 11 partners in academia or industry in the course of this project. This provided a great breadth of expertise and allowed to highlight the diversity of career options in engineering, as well as the many and varied ways that engineers and engineering impacts our daily lives.
Some of these partnerships existed prior to this project as external funders of different projects. This project however helped bring these partners into Glasgow Science Centre where then worked side by side to develop and deliver impactful public engagement activities.
Key outcomes
This close working relationship with engineers meant that skills and knowledge were shared in both directions. Engineers learned how to talk about the work that they do and left with the skills and activities to continue engaging the public after the completion of this project. Staff at Glasgow Science Centre learned about many cutting edge engineering projects in Scotland. This knowledge informs how they continue to engage the public in the normal running of Glasgow Science Centre, allowing them to bring real world context to their work.
