About STEM Theatre in a Box
STEM Theatre in a Box aimed to provide resources, workshops and live shows for children of primary school age and their families. This part of the project, ‘Engineering is in Everything’ highlighted female and Global Majority engineers and their work. The project used storytelling, theatre, comedy and practical science to engage and excite.
The project’s aim as a whole, was to give children aged 5-11. Particularly those in challenging circumstances the opportunity to build Science Capital and an understanding of how science and engineering is relevant to them and to their everyday, real life issues and challenges.
All the schools shows took place with Bradford schools in communities in areas of high social deprivation. They were delivered in 10 schools and two STEM events
A big challenge initially, was how to coach the Engineers to explain what they do to young children. They were very enthusiastic right from the start, and one task for them was to write a paragraph explaining what they do to a 5-6 year old.
