Professor of Electrical Engineering, University of Oxford
Professor Martin Booth is an optical engineer who pioneered the use of adaptive optics for high-resolution imaging and fabrication, though research and industrial applications. The adaptive optics technology uses advanced modulators to control the properties of light, enhancing systems beyond the capabilities provided by conventional optics. His work on adaptive aberration correction has led to widespread applications in biomedical microscopy, deep tissue imaging, and super-resolution microscopy. His inventions have led to groundbreaking developments in precision 3D laser manufacturing inside transparent materials. These advances have enabled technologies ranging across optical fibre sensors, optical computation, and radiation detectors.
