Professor Jun Wang is a leading researcher in artificial intelligence, machine learning and intelligent decision-making at UCL. To date, he has published more than 300 papers and received eight best-paper awards. His research spans generative AI, reinforcement learning, multi-agent systems, large-language-model agents, recommender systems, information retrieval, and Bayesian optimisation. His work has influenced both sequence generation and advanced reasoning methods for large language models. As a technology entrepreneur, co-founder of MediaGamma, and adviser to Genie AI, among other roles, he has translated AI research into commercial technologies at scale. MediaGamma’s work underpinned a UCL REF2021 Impact Case Study and led to a successful acquisition. According to publicly reported figures, Genie AI has served more than 150,000 users and supported over 200,000 drafted documents, while Nozzle.ai’s analytics platform processes data covering more than 44 million Amazon customers. His algorithms have also been incorporated into major AI platforms (such as Ray Tune and Optuna) and have been applied to particle physics, drug discovery, autonomous laboratories, and materials design. He has mentored more than 20 PhD researchers and postdoctoral fellows who have become academics, technology leaders, and AI entrepreneurs.
