Professor Cathy Holt is internationally renowned for her work on motion analysis of human joints. Her research focuses on applying engineering approaches to understand human movement, improve musculoskeletal health and develop innovative technologies that enhance patient care. By integrating biomechanics, motion analysis, medical imaging and clinical research, she has made significant contributions to understanding the effects of musculoskeletal disease on movement and function, particularly in osteoarthritis. Professor Holt is Director of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Research Facility and Co-Director of the Versus Arthritis Biomechanics and Bioengineering Centre of Excellence at Cardiff University.
She has played a leading role in securing and delivering more than £25 million in research funding to develop world-class research infrastructure and capability in motion analysis, medical imaging and musculoskeletal engineering. She is committed to developing the next generation of engineers and researchers and is a strong advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion. She contributes extensively to national and international peer review, research strategy and professional service. She is a Fellow of several leading professional institutions and received a Suffrage Science Award.
