Professor Barbara Evans is distinguished for her seminal global research on public health and wastewater, and the development of new systems-scale tools for analysis and design of sanitation solutions. Her impact is substantial and global, leading to the inclusion of sanitation within the 2000 to 2015 UN Millennium Development Goals, new indicators for the 2015 to 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals and the establishment of the global Coalition for Climate Resilient Sanitation. In the UK she was a leading contributor to the 2024 Royal Academy of Engineering working group on wastewater and public health. She also champions multidisciplinary education in public health engineering.
