Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering, University of Oxford; Director of Research and Strategic Partnerships, Maine College of Engineering and Computing, University of Maine
Professor Ron Roy is internationally recognised for his intra-disciplinary contributions in the application of physical acoustics principles. He specialises in modelling, characterisation, active and passive detection, and exploitation of acoustic cavitation for non-invasive therapy, drug delivery, nuclear fusion, and underwater and naval defence applications. He has made fundamental contributions to the physical understanding of cavitation dynamics and phenomena such as single-bubble sonoluminescence. He invented patent-protected processes and practices that have been licensed commercially in medical technology and energy generation. As a consultant to industry, he played an enabling role in the clinical translation and regulatory approval of novel methods of disease treatment.
