Professor Jon Heffernan is an expert in semiconductor materials and devices with an extensive career in industry and academia, where he pioneered developments in a range of semiconductor devices including lasers, LEDs, solar cells, and quantum emitters. For over 12 years, he has led the National Epitaxy Facility at the University of Sheffield. The UKRI-funded centre of excellence enables groundbreaking R&D across the UK by providing world-class semiconductor wafers to researchers in over 25 universities as well as industry. Under Jon’s leadership, the facility has expanded and is positioned as a leading research centre in the UK’s national semiconductor strategy.
