Professor Jaafar Elmirghani developed new concepts in ultralow energy networking using optics. He has received 10 international awards (including the 2016 Edison Award) and is Chair of the IEEE’s global Sustainable ICT standards initiative. He founded Ultracell Networks Ltd in 2020, which is commercialising his research in energy efficient network design. He leads a number of research projects and has research interests in communication networks, wireless and optical communication systems. Professor Elmirghaniis is Director of Technology, Research and Innovation for Neom, where he has developed cutting-edge technology for future sustainable cognitive cities.
