Chair, UK Atomic Energy Authority
Bernard Taylor is a scientist specialising in organic chemistry with experience in manufacturing and corporate finance. He is currently Chair of the UK Atomic Energy Authority, a director of UK Biobank and Deputy Steward of the University of Oxford. In December 2019, he retired as Chair of Evercore Partners International, a firm he founded in Europe in 2006, and became Chair Emeritus.
He has more than 45 years of international business and corporate finance experience in the engineering and science industries, having worked at Smiths Industries, Baring Brothers, Robert Fleming, JP Morgan Chase and Evercore Partners. He is currently Chair of Thomas White Oxford Ltd and the Advisory Board of the Royal Society, and a director and founder of Oxford Science Enterprises plc.
At the University of Oxford, Bernard is a member of many major committees including the Medical Sciences Divisional Board and the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Divisional Board. He is a Fellow of both St John’s College and New College. He has been a Deputy Lieutenant of Oxfordshire since 2011 and was Chair of the Royal Commission for the Great Exhibition of 1851 from 2011 until 2022 and Finance Commissioner for eight years before that.
